Expressways
Hello Rsrikanth05, thanks for your question. I removed the entry on Indian expressways from the article Expressway in an attempt to focus the subject of that article on the second class of high speed roads limited-access road (known as expressway in USA). The Indian expressways are of a very high quality, much like the American Freeways and British Motorways. These last two types of road have had their article amalgamated under Controlled-access highway, and I believe this is where discussion of the Indian road called expressway belongs.
It is important to observe the Wikipedia tradition that Wikipedia is not a dictionary which I understand to mean that it is not the names of words that are important, but the ideas they convey. Unfortunately, the English word Expressway conveys different ideas in different parts of the world.
There is a proposal to re-name the article Expressway to limited-access road or similar unambiguous name. Is there a lower-standard type of highway in India that would match the limited-access road definition? I would like to include India in the article.Nankai (talk) 05:33, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
- I take your point and it's a reasonable one. I won't remove the reference to India in Expressways. It may seem irrelevant there at a later stage if the article is re-named. Note, the identical information is included in Controlled-access highway. Nankai (talk) 03:49, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi
Hi srikanth, never realised I was flooding the article with images. Now that I look back at it I do feel that I may have got a little tooooooo "Enthusiastic" and made unnecessary changes. However, I do feel that the images I added to the rail and aviation segments of the article were valid. If you could please go over my most recent edits in these two sections. If you agree do contact me on my talk page. Until then I will make no more changes to the said article especially with respect to the images on the article. Thanks Enthusiast10 (talk) 09:51, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
